About Brow Lifts
New Horizons Plastic Surgery, Dr. H. James Webb, FACS
After years of muscle motion deep furrowed wrinkles appear in the area above the eyes, commonly referred to as frown lines. The browlift smoothes the forehead, raises the upper eyelids and reduces frown lines above the eyes. The result is a more youthful, rested appearance.
Patients 40-60 years of age choose the browlift procedure to minimize the visible signs of aging and commonly combine the browlift with the facelift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for a smoother overall look.
In an initial surgical consultation, Dr. Webb will explain thoroughly what to expect and the surgical technique he will use. He will ask about your concerns and expectations and inform you of the recovery process. Be prepared to discuss your medical history, any medications you may take and any previous facial surgery you may have had. Dr. Webb will give you detailed instructions in preparation for your brow lift. Strictly following these instructions will help ensure a successful procedure and recovery.
In a brow lift procedure an incision is made behind the hairline across the top of the head for a less conspicuous scar, unless you have a receding hairline, in which case the incision may be placed right at the hairline to avoid the addition of more height to the forehead. Through this incision, the skin of the forehead is lifted to allow the underlying tissue to be removed and to release the muscles. Browlift patients with very short hair may consider letting it grow out before planning the surgery so that the hair can hide the incisions during the recovery process.
